The Ultimate Home Checklist

Owning a home is a big responsibility, but maintaining it is just as important. In each season we approach, there are different measures of upkeep that need to be taken. Follow along as we take you through maintaining your home through the winter and seasons after.


Home Checklist

Besides checking up on things like appliances, security, and exterior  like a backyard, we have compiled helpful lists that will make your home maintenance a smooth experience each season.


The cold weather is setting in and this winter home checklist will keep your home in top-notch condition:


Fall Maintenance:


-Rake any leaves

-Repave driving to fill in any cracks

-Powerwash house siding

-Check out roof condition and replace if necessary

-Fill in any gaps around windows and doors to not let out heat

-Homes with fireplaces should have clean flues

-Replace any door hardware to make sure your home is secure

-Vacuum and shampoo carpets


Winter Maintenance: 


-Inspect electrical cords and wires that are worn down and need to be replaced

-Vacuum out any vents that could have dust build up 

-Testing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly

-Clear out garbage disposals by running baking soda and hot water down them to clear it out

-Check your water’s softener and add salt if necessary

-Look at sink and tub drains for any residue or if they need unclogging

-Sediment can build up from hot water heaters, a flush might be needed 


After we unwrap presents from Christmas, welcome the next year for New Year’s, and get through all the snow days, Spring will be here before you know it. When it begins to warm up, getting a head start on home maintenance is a great idea!


Spring Maintenance:


-Change out those air-conditioning filters

-Dust and polish wood furniture

-Clear out spouts and outdoor gutters

-Replace torn window screens to keep bugs out

-Consider a professional for pest control 

-Lay down fertilizer in your lawn


Summer Maintenance:


-Oil garage-door opener and chain, garage door, and all door hinges.

-Update outdoor spaces like decks and front porches

-Check refrigerator trays and freezer coils

-Look at tile grout in places like the bathroom and kitchen for any holes or cracks

-Water any outdoor plants and trim bushes
